Earlier this month I helped my friend Paula with her bridal shower and I made a bougainvillea photo backdrop. It turned out to be easier than I thought and because I never saw any similar projects on Pinterest I knew I had to share it. If you have been following me on Snapchat and Instagram then you know my love of this plant. Recently, my husband just planted one in front of our garage and its going to be worth the wait once its tall. For this project, there is no need to buy bougainvillea branches. Just do what I did, ask people in your neighborhood if you can cut some branches.
A few things to keep in mind when trimming...
1. it has long thorns so wear gloves or just be careful
2. I cut about 18-24 inches from each branch
3. all the flowers on the branch are mostly towards one side
Supplies
Follow these steps
Step 1. Grab 2 branches together do not line them up, instead move one slightly below the other.
Step 2. Cut a piece of wire (about 8 inches) and wrap it around both branches 2 times leaving excess wire out.
Step 3. Hammer a nail onto fence.
Step 4. Take the 2 branches wrapped together to the nail on the fence and continue wrapping the wire around the nail and the branches. Continue until it is secured and you have no more wire left.
Step 5. Repeat all the steps until you see it forming in your design. Use leftover branches to insert in spaces you feel that need more flowers. No need to use nail and wires anymore.
This Bougainvillea photo backdrop adds so much color and it cost almost nothing to make. Here are some photos from the bridal shower...
I hope you are able to make your own photo backdrop for your next event. It really does make your backyard look so beautiful. Please ask me any questions, I'd be happy to help. Don't forget to tag me on it using #caradiy
