During our vacation in October, we took a day trip to Joshua Tree National Park which is located in Southern California near Palm Springs. The drive going to the park is really beautiful and you get to see the California dessert. It was our first time visiting so we were taking it all in. That day, it was in the high 80's so we made sure to take lots of water, especially because if something happened to our car we would need to stay hydrated. We also made sure to take hats to give us shade during our hike.
We stopped at the Rangers Guide shop to pick up a free map and kids got a Junior booklet. About a mile up we reached the paying booth and made the boys use the restrooms. There are a few bathrooms within the park but not at all the trails.
We did two easy trails but with the boys and it was more than enough. Judah was complaining towards the end of each one and we had to hold him for a few minutes. We wish we would have had his hiking backpack with us.
Trails we did:
1. Hidden Valley : 1 mile loop. This one was our favorite. It had a few giant rocks for the kids to climb on.
2. Cottonwood Spring: 1 mile
We found two blog posts that helped us decide what to do while visiting:
